2016 Europeans - Caolan & Alexander win overall
After ten races sailed at the Mirror European Championships, Lough Ree YC pairing Caolan Croasdell & Alexander Farrell won with two bullets on the final day. Mel and Sophie Collins of hosts Royal Cork Yacht Club were second on 22 points with another RCYC pairing of Rory and Oisin MacAllister third on 25 points. Sarah White & Eoghan Duffy from Sligo YC took the Ladies prize & 6th overall.
There was a more southwesterly wind with strong gusts which built throughout the day. In Race 9 the top reach was pretty close for flying spinnakers and there were some thrills & spills in the bigger gusts. Caolan & Alexander stamped their authority on the fleet with a emphatic victory ahead of Rory & Oisin with Mel & Sophie third. With 2nd place secure, Mel & Sophie headed ashore and did not contest the final race.
In Race 10 with the wind building further, there were some capsizes on the 2nd round sausage with Ben Graf & Hannah Smyth one of the boats to go in while well placed. Once again Caolan & Alexander sailed to an emphatic victory ahead of Rory & Oisin with Rob Keal & Cillian Foster 3rd.
